TIMERAISER OF THE MONTH

APRIL, 2019

Tara Holmes

What piece of art did you buy?

Strawberry Fields by Shelley Penner.

What organization(s) did you volunteer with to pay for your art?

  • Operation Red Nose
  • Junior Achievement
  • BC Interior Community Foundation
  • People in Motion
  • Brennans Ugly Sweater Run
  • Boogie the Bridge
  • Canadian Mental Health Association

What do you like best about the organization you volunteered for?

There are so many worthy organizations that make such a difference and I wish I could volunteer for all of them. The photo of me with my art was taken at the 25th anniversary of Pacific Sport a couple months ago at the Operation Red Nose media launch. I know when most people volunteer it’s for their kids sports and activities which is great, but now that my kids are grown and gone I love volunteering for new agencies and that is what makes the KTW Timeraiser such a great event as it introduces you to some of these amazing organizations that I otherwise may not have known about.

What do you like best about your artwork?

I fell in love with my piece of art as soon as I saw it at the event. The creative color bursts on this acrylic piece are so calming for me, and it goes so well in my color design at home.

What do you like about the Timeraiser event?

The KTW Timeraiser is such a win win for the whole community. Local artists are paid for their work by generous sponsors in our city. Then people can have an opportunity to own some of these pieces they may not have been able to afford by bidding volunteer time instead of money for the art. Then the agencies have a chance to get new volunteers to help them through the year as they donate hours of time to receive their art the following year. Win Win Win!

OUR EVENT

SPONSORS

All the artwork in a Kamloops This Week Timeraiser is purchased at market value  - none of the artists were asked to donate their work.  This is one of the key principles of the Kamloops This Week Timeraiser - it supports the careers of emerging artists in our community.  Corporate and personal donations pay for all the pieces - their generosity is a key part of the Timeraiser's success.

OUR PARTICIPATING

We aim to have 20 different agencies in attendance at the Kamloops This Week Timeraiser.  Each agency is present with a spokesperson to tell you about their mission, volunteer opportunities and answer any questions you have.  This list will grow and change slightly until we finalize everyone.

  • Brennans Ugly Sweater Run
  • Kamloops Arts Council
